Three Wheeled Buggies
If you're seeking a buggy to run around in or a nifty stroller to tackle neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies offer great mobility. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily even in tight spaces.
If you're looking for an easy ride in your pram, choose models with 360deg front wheels that swivel. However, they are prone to punctures, so be prepared with a repair kit.
Frame made of sturdy material
Recent figures have been released showing that the three-wheeled buggie which was a symbol of the decade of more money than wisdom - is in steep decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers that are able to handle a wider variety of terrain, while still looking swanky and being easy to push.
The bigger the wheels are, the better your buggy can deal with bumpy surfaces and uneven pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back makes it easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn and 3 year old and found it was able to handle grass, cobbles rough roads, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt solid to push, and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require occasional pumping) offer built-in suspension that was very comfortable for my children.
The size and shape of the seat is a further factor to think about. It should be big enough for your child's comfort. You will also want it to be able to recline to allow them to lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies come with a lie-flat option that allows the child to face you, whereas others only allow a face-to-parent one.
The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road or walking in muddy areas. This buggy is suitable for a single child as early as birth and can be adjusted to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth until age 4, and comes with a bumper, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a big cushioned seat. The storage options are excellent as well, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets inside the hood, and a handy pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
3 wheeler pushchair with a greater diameter
Larger wheels give your buggy more stability when driving over rough terrain. This is especially beneficial for buggies that are off-road. They also allow you to move the pushchair around tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have the front wheels that swivel to assist you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability with which they can be pushed. This is also helpful if you bump into an unintentional tree root or road, as the front wheel will rise up slightly to prevent you from hitting it.
A majority of 3 wheel pushchairs come with air-filled tyres. This means they can be used on many different terrains and are much more adaptable than 4-wheelers. They are also lighter. They are also more susceptible to punctures, so you will need to have repair kits and an spare inner tubes on hand.
Some of our favourite 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. According to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels which according to her "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles", and can easily move up and down kerbs. The buggies also have a suspension that Kath says "smooths out bumps extremely effectively".
Buggies with larger wheels may be quite wide, and can be difficult to fit in tight spaces. This can be an issue especially if you're using it to a jogger or you need to maneuver through doorways that are narrow when you're out and out and about. Fortunately, many models come with compact folding options that let you remove the front wheels to make compact storage.
Easy to Manoeuvre
One of the primary benefits to a three-wheeled buggy is that it's much more maneuverable especially with a child in tow. three wheel pushchair are built ensures that the front wheels turn on a dime and are incredibly easy to manoeuvre which makes them perfect for difficult terrains like cobbles, parks and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried out a three-wheeler with her infant and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough terrain, with the swivel front wheel being especially helpful. I was also awed by how well it handled kerbs when using the hand-operated break. I found it to be extremely stable when going downhill or over uneven ground."
The only drawback to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something to keep in mind if your home area is one of the cities. If this is a concern then a 4-wheel buggy may be a better option for you.

Kath, our MFM reviewer, also loved the spaciousness of this buggy. There's an easily accessible large basket that's surprising spacious for a vehicle that's this big. Plus, there's also an excellent pouch on the back seat unit, as well as two smaller mesh pockets beneath the hood, where you can keep your keys and phone.
